Content Description: Winfield Scott Stratton (1848-1902) was an American prospector, capitalist, and philanthropist. He discovered the Independence Lode near Victor, Colorado, on July 4, 1891, one of the richest gold mines ever located on earth, and became the Cripple Creek district's first millionaire in 1894. When he died in 1902, he left the bulk of his estate for the establishment of the Myron Stratton Home for the "aged poor and dependent children", which was named for his father.
Condition Description: Good. Minimal damage to cover, no holes or tears, pages are undamaged. Date on inside top left cover, name "Knute" on inside right top (see photo), and "Colorado Springs, Colorado" on second page inside left.
